VHS Macrovision

I am trying to capture VHS to my PC for transfer to DVD. I am using an ATI AIW Radeon card and have tried numerous applications for capturing. The problem is the VHS tapes appear to be protected. My captures keep repeating the same few frmaes over and over again, however the audio seems to be fine. I have heard of Macrovision and thought it was only to prevent backing up DVDs to VHS. I didnt know it would work in the reverse order as well. Is there any way around this problem? Are there software solutions to this problem or only hardware solutions?

Don't know if there's a software solution (probably not). My Macro2000 "Video stabilizer" works fine. There are several macrovision removal boxes / video enhancers available.

wouldn't macrovision just over-emphasize the luma channels or something like that? I don't think analog macrovision protection could make the capture card repeat frames over and over again. I'm not sure, though...

It messes up the synch signal. A capture card could very well recognize multiple frames for that reason.

I have also heard of people bypassing this macrovision protection using a digital video camera. Apparently they hook up the VCR to their camcorder and then the camcorder to the firewire port on their computer. Has anyone else heard of this or know if it is true or not?
