Hi,
I want to encode movies with divx 5.02 and with ac3 sound. I was going through the guides but information on using ac3 sound is not enough for a newbie like me. Could anyone pls gimme detailed info on this please.
Thanx in advance.

If you're using Gknot, it's no problem. Only check "just mux" in the audio processing tab and you'll get your divx with AC3.
If you want to do it manually, make a Divx without sound, demux the AC3 from the vob files with DVD2AVI and mux it with the avi file with Nandub. It's easier than using mp3 because you don't have to deal with all the encoding and normalizing issues in between :)

I have tried using the Gknot guide for atleast 6times but no luck. Something or the other goes wrong. I feel the guide is not for newbies to gknot.

Can you specify the problem a little better? Nobody can help you if you only say "something goes wrong" ;)
If you manage to make a divx video with Gknot without audio, then it's pretty easy. Open it in Nandub and mux it with the .ac3 file that you got from DVD2AVI. The guides are pretty good, I can't describe it any better (only if you have a specific problem).

I am sorry for not being elaborate. For example:
--------------------------------------
You can see the Aspect Ratio error in one of the fields, and as you can see the results are close to perfect. You also have to keep watching the Bits/Pixel values (Output resolution):
--------------------------------------
What is "perfect" here?
--------------------------------------
Turn the Compressibility check on and set it to 5%, then press the Now button, wait for a few minutes until GKnot comes up again.
--------------------------------------
After i do this, do i need to click on save and encode again? If i do so,then the compressibility option is not checked again. Do i need to check it again? The explaination is not clear here.
Please do let me know if i have missed anything here.

What is "perfect" here? A final resolution with an aspect ratio of exactly 16:9 or 4:3 would be "perfect." GKnot shows you the aspect ratio you will have after cropping and resizing are complete. The results are "close to perfect" in the example shown in the guide, because the aspect ratio change made through cropping and resizing is 2.5%.After i do this, do i need to click on save and encode again? If i do so,then the compressibility option is not checked again. Do i need to check it again? Pressing "Now" will run a compressibility check. GKnot will not let you do anything else until the check is complete. Once it completes, you will see a percentage value appear in the bottom section of the GKnot main window, to the right of the "Load" button. The Load button is below the bits/pixel*frame value you use to estimate your first resolution.
Here is the recommended process:
Open your .d2v project for the first time.
Estimate (or use actual) audio track and avi overheads
Using the b/p*f guidelines in Doom9's guide, estimate your resolution and number of cds.
Make your first compressibility test, choosing your resizing, noise reduction, trim, and other options in the "Save&Encode" window.
Use the compressibility test results that appear in the window, to change resolution and/or number of cds.
Retest only if you make changes.
Encode once you have chosen a final resolution.
I hope this helped you.
