OK - first time poster here, so I will try to get it all right for you first go, and give you as much info as possible.

Please note that I have now spent over 2 hours trolling through the other Topics etc. and using the Search facility, as well as having read the FAQ a couple of times now, to be sure I haven't missed something simple. Odds are I still have missed something simple, but rest assured, I have spent quite a bit of time trying to work this out for myself, so a little help from the not-so-newbies would be much appreciated :)

First of all, background info :

I am using DVD2SVCD to try and make a "backup" of the movie Men In Black - not worried about menus etc. but the subtitles are essential - which is my problem, but I will come to that after more background stuff.

PC specs I think don't matter for this particular problem, but I will give for posterity : P4 1.6Ghz, 80GBG 7200RPM HDD, 256MB PC2700 DDR RAM, GeForce4 Ti4200 video.

I have tried this 3 or 4 times now, and each time, get a nice, picture perfect quality vid with sound - but absolutely NO subtitles. I have tried keeping the standard SVCD settings for subtitles, and I even tried the "permanent" option, but none of them appear to be working.

I am using Daemon Tools to load the CD images to view on my PC before I burn them, and using WinDVD 3 as my viewer...

Here is my DVD2SVCD_log.txt file (NOTE: it has picked up a lot of subtitles, as in this particular attempt, I tried the "show next" a few times to see if I could actually see any subs, which I didn't) :

If there is any other info that I can give that will help you answer my problem, please let me know and i'll do my best to get it for you.

I no longer have the DVD which I ripped the files from, but I DO still have the VOB's that I ripped from it.

I have managed to do a number of movies before this (thanks to DVD2SVCD) but none of them, until now, have had subtitles.

Hi-
About the multiplexed subtitles - there isn't software player that will show them in SVCD file. I think you miss somehow this info (BTW existing in so many posts). With WinDVD you simply cannot see the subtitles. Only standalone DVD player can show SVCD muxed subtitles. For me the problem is that the permanent subtitles are not shown. IMO there are several reasons for that:
1. The subtitles are dislayed "out of the visible screen".
2. They are black in color at black background.
3. AviSynth subtitle plug-in don't work properly.
I don't know realy how to fix it, never tried permanent subs. One thing is if they are displayed in WMP.
Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Hmmm... ok - first of all, thanks for the response :)

Second of all, half of what you just said kinda went over my head... as I said, I am quite new to all of this, and am just working on absorbing it all.

When you talk about the "multiplexed subtitles" not being able to play on software players... is there another type of subtitle that CAN play on software players ?

I have burnt one of the CD images that I have, and the subtitles don't show up on my standalone, either. It's an LG DV4721P, if that's any help.

Anyway - any pointers, etc. that anyone can point on will be greatfully received :)
