Every now and then, when doing a backup, I get a movie that will play fine in infoedit, but on the desktop player, the movie jumps to the start of the chapters, and goes all the way to the end of the disk and hangs. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? I burn on dvdrw first to test, and have gotten this problem about three times with different movies.
I've done about 35 movies but I realy feel like a newbie on this problem.
Is there any way to correct the pointers and if so could someone tell me how?
I'm now having the same problem with Crouching tiger hiden dragon, I ripped only movie files leaving only english 5.1 and reset the audio to x:80, using DVD Decrypter, used infoedit to make new ifo's then did get VTS several times, till it played okay in infoedit. After burning to a dvdrw the movie will not play right on the desktop player, jumps to the start of all the chapters and then stops and will not play at all in power dvd, but using infoedit the dvdrw will play fine.
I have two coasters from trying it on DVDR's
thank you for your help

assuming you are using "good" brand dvd-rw to test I'm presuming you have a tweaking problem with your settings on your computer and your program you are using to burn.
Everyone's setting needs to be different........you'll have to try nero 5.5.9, recordmax, prassi whatever and possibly even change your atapi/ide settings in your system in control panel. If you have pioneer a04 or a03 ppl have had success (like me) by changing from DMA to PIO settings on your IDE controller.

Thanks for the reply,
I use the same dvdrw's to test all my movies but only have had problems with 3 or 4 movies doing this.
I use Gear Pro, 6.2 to burn with but have tried with Nero and Prassi also, so it doesn't seem to be a software problem, I am running win 2000, with 793 megs ram on a p4 1.8ghz. 180gigs hd, with a pioneer dvr-103.
The problem seems to be in the pointers to the vob files, but I don't know how to fix it.
thank you

you have to elaborate on what you're doing. WHy are you changing pointers. are you splitting dvd9 to dvd5?

the files are small enough to fit on a 4.3 gig so no need to split.
I thought the reason it was studdering was some of the pointers were off.
Do you know of another reason for the studdering, if so how to fix it.
thank you

I have this same problem with a few different movies. It happens on Vanilla Sky and Mulholland Drive. I notice it when I use Power DVD 4 to view the files before burning. I believe the problem that I have is related to using IFOedit and REMPEG.

Sometimes this happen to me with Seamless Branching movies. If your movie is seamless branching, try to test first keeping PGC_1, or if your movie is multiangle keep angle 1.
Try to test this way. If it works, you are doing something wrong in ifoedit.

I did Crouching... and Vanilla Sky using Smart Ripper, IfoEdit, Rempeg and burnt them with Prassi PrimoDVD. Copies work great. ;)

I have the same problem. The movie contein 2 PGC with excatly the same length. I ripped PGC_1. Then used Ifoedit to fix ifo and video_ts and make a virtual drive with imagetools. Load that in Ifoedit and make DVD Play. Its Okay. So i tested WinDVD and point to the virtual dive and it works. So made a driveimage and load it per daemontools and point WinDVD to that virtualdrive. Now the movie start and jumps directly to the last Chapter. So i load the VIDEO_TS from the daemontoolimage in Ifoedit and try DVD Play. I get for all chapter 2 error messages:
1. DVD Warning: Coul not read a file on the DVD Disc
2. Could not read part of a file on DVD Disc. Playback may not continue.
Perhaps some can help me. Grinder perhaps u can test that with your Image too.
