MPEG1 Gurus - please help!

I am very frustrated since I can´t find a MPEG1 tool that works as I need it to!

I have a concert DVD that contains several acts, and between each act there is a fade to black. I have encoded it to MPEG1 format, and now my troubles start!! I have registered VCD-Cutter, that should do the task of cutting up the big file into "music act 1" .."music act 2" ect.. but the software won´t do a precise cut? It´s not doing the cut exactly where I place the mark in/out, so I end up with a little bit from the start of the next number ect. in the previous number..

How do I fix this? I have tried TMPEG also, and it won´t do a precise cut either :(

My next problem is that I need to split up each performance into 5-10 smaller clips. this is pretty easy with VCD Cutter, but it makes some bad frames in the first couple of frames in the new small MPEG parts?? This is not acceptable for my use of these clips.. I will get in trouble if some frames are broken.. I don´t know so much about the MPEG format, but I assume the bad frames occur because VCDcutter is cutting in a bad place in the GOP sequence?

But how can you make a precise cut in a mpeg movie then? seems odd, it it aint possiple :)

it very possible, just use myflix (demo), it cuts right to the frame; after the cut, multiplex it in tmpgenc to be vcd compliant.

If you still can get the correct cut you should try ripping the DVD and starting over. May save time in the long run. This time use tmpgenc and set source position before you create the mpeg 1. I'm sure there is a doom9 guide if not try www.vcdhelp.com Some of the people on here can tend to be jerks. good luck! peace! :)

If you want a free program that will do this then use bbmpeg. It basically works just like TMPGenc's source range, in that it doesnt actually cut anything it just processes the footage up to a point then stops, effectively giving you a cut point. This bypasses all of the problems inherant in physically cutting an mpeg stream.

Unfortunately if you have many little cuts to make it will be somewhat exaustive to use bbmpeg since you will have to scan the entire mpg stream for each cut, even if you are saving out the first 10 secs. But this is still better than transcoding the whole thing again in TMPGEnc with source range set.

You will have to demultiplex your mpg first in TMPGenc/mpeg tols. Just go through your movie and find the cut times you want by second. Then make a series multiplexes with different start and end times in seconds to create your various clips.

You do know that you can navigate to different chapters without cutting right? You can insert entry point chapters at various points within a single mpg track. If you want to go this route then get vcdimager and one of its gui's, give vcdeasy a try.
