Problem with "The Saint"...Mixed Content

The main problem is when the subtitles come up (built into the movie, for when Russian is being spoken), the content changes from 99% FILM to 55% NTSC, and then right back to 99% FILM after the subtitles disappear. I've dealt with something similar with "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", when the 3rd VOB is NTSC and the rest are FILM. However, I tried the same method with this movie, using Decomb:

Decimate(mode=1,threshold=50)

this still results in slightly-stuttering playback when the subtitles appear. i've tried IVTC'ing using Decomb, that was even worse. is my only option to simple keep the framerate at 29.97, and deinterlace, and live with the ghosting effects during most of the film? if anyone has successfully ripped this movie, please help! or if you've dealt with this before.

Hi-

First, make sure you have the latest version of Decomb, Ver 3.91 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/decomb391.zip). Keep your eyes open for a newer version soon, also.

If you truly have mixed content, then both Mode=1 and deinterlacing will keep it very slightly jerky. This is most easily seen in the telecined portions during a panning or scrolling scene. The reason it remains with a slight stutter is that there are duplicate fields (now blended into frames) still in there. It may be less obvious with Deinterlacing, but only because everything's blurred, but it's there. You can try encoding a portion of the movie using Deinterlacing to see if it looks any better, but I don't see how it would. If IVTCing makes large portions very jerky, then between Mode=1 and just Deinterlacing, I think the Mode=1 is by far the better solution because you keep as many Progressive frames as possible and hence a clearer picture.

But I agree-it's a tough problem with no perfect solution.
