Why does this work ? - DV Codec

Hi,

I'm sure there is a real easy answer for this, but I don't know it and would like to.

I was having problems getting CCE2.64 to work with DV created from Ulead Media Studio Pro 6/6.5. When I would try to encode with CCE, the encoding dialog box would pop up like it was going to encode and then it disappears back to normal CCE window, without any errors.

I know CCE is working since I use it to encode other types (non-DV) of video. I installed a Canopus DV codec/driver and CCE is now encoding. My assumption is that I need a DV codec installed besided the Microsoft one that is built into Ulead MSP. I just want to verify and asks the experts. Thanks,

You simply need a dv-codec which is based on the vfw model.
Those are canopus, mainconcept and panasonic f.e. but not the DirectX default one from microsoft ...

Thank you. Yes, video for windows, makes sense. How about this one. Trying to convert divx 3 and 4 avis to mpeg with CCE. In cce2.64, it just shuts down and in cce2.5 it gives me the following error:

'Couldn't find appropriate video codec for 'mp42'.

I can view the avis with any media player. I know I have the divx 3, 4 and 5 codec installed. Is it another vfw issue or what. Thanks,

for MP42/MP43 you need to install the 'directx media tools'

CCE 2.64 SHOULD work with proper DV avi, atleast it works with DV AVI export from Premiere, but before i installed 2.64, i used to use the Canopus VFW DV codec (decompressor is free download, dont install it if you have canopus DV hardware in yout machine).

basically i took the DirectSHow compatible DV AVI export from premiere, changed the AVI fourcc code to CDVC (Canopus DV Codec) and CCE worked fine with it.

www.microsoft.com/directx actually, but since dx8 came out, its not there anymore, you might have to do a search for it these days.
