Creating SVCD with ATI aiw 7500

I have an ATI aiw 7500 running on Windows 2000 and have tried to create an SVCD without success. Can someone please give me some pointers.

1. ATI settings : 480x480, 2.4 CBR
2. I get the MPG file
3. Burn the SVCD using Nero and was able to see the movie using a
DVD player software on the computer but not on the DVD player
(APEX AD-600A). I know that the DVD player can play SVCD as I
was able to view other SVCD movies
4. Tried using I-Author to create the CIF file, but everytime that
I burn the CD (using EASY CD Creator), it dies at 99% and I keep
getting the message "TrackWriter error - Data Incomplete -
[T7307]".
5. Tries using VCDEasy and was able to view the movie on computer
again, but not on the DVD player


Is there a problem with the MPG file created by the ATI card ?
Do I have to encode the MPG again using another software ?
Does it matter that I authorize to create menu or not ?

P.S So far, the captured MPG file is never out of sync. The image
and sound are always perfect.

hum... These are hardware problems, so you've posted it in wrong forung: "(S)VCD Encoding and Authoring" covers normally the using of software. In your case, the encoding and decoding done by hardware(capture card and dvd player), the authoring software did nothing to contribute to you problem, definitely!!!

But I'll still give you some info to help you before you give it up, just to show how competent the experts are in this forum:

1. it's possible that this is a problem of your ati aiw card. Please call the hotline of ati, or, only perhaps it helps, visit the forum of capture(http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=10). In this forum(VCD Authoring) you'll not meet many experts in deal with ATI R7500 AIW, but rather DVD -> (S)VCD (step by step) conversion.

2. also possible is the firmware of your DVD player. You can get the upgrade on:

3. a 100% safe solution is to transcode/reencode with TMpeg. Capture at a higher bitrate then encode it by using a standard profile.

MPGs muxed with bbMPG seems to work well ALWAYs with most standalone DVD players, so why don't you demux it with TPMGEnc and remux with bbMPG?

why so complicated? Demux with TPMGEnc and Remux also with TPMGEnc is easier. But only remux is not sure. A 100% solution is to reencode.

Guys,

This is what I have done and now able to burn an SVCD :

1. Capture MPG2 from the ATI MMC 7.7
2. Used TMPGEnc to demux
3. Used BBMpeg to mux
4. Burn the SVCD with Nero

I have also tried

Just have a few questions :
1. Does it mean that the MPG2 created by the capture card could be different from one manufacturer to another, and not necessarily compliant ? And that is why I have to demux and mux back.

2. When using VCDEasy to create chapters (1 every 4 minutes), I was able to press on the forward key using PowerDVD (off the computer) and it worked, but could not do the same when viewing on the stand alone DVD player. Is that normal ?

When the muxer of bbMpeg works, works the muxer of TMPGEnc 100%!!!

For the navigation of SVCD-chapters on DVD player, you should use the "skip forward" key, not the navigation forward key, whitch only active in DVD-menus. So use the "skip forward"(looks like tab-key) and "skip backward" to reach the next/prev. chapters.
