Hello guys, and all the specialist from here.

Perhaps this is not the right place for this problem of mine but I will write it down anyway. Mybe someone finds it just right.

I have an idea to somehow capture subtitles from the tv screen. There is a big need for subtitles for divx movies and many are translated volunteerly and with low quality (congrats to excemptions). On tv we have a professionaly translated subs already. And how to get them with not much work, prefferably using OCR?

After some months of searching I came up to a conclusion that a VirtualDub filter might be a step towards the solution. But I am very short with c++ programming.

Is there anybody that would develop such a filter? The idea is the following. With virtualDub one first captures the movie from the tv screen together with local subtitles. In Slovenia this is a common feature. Than all the breaks and commercials are being cut off. After that this special filter would be applyed.

This filter should determine the start (and the stop) of the subtitle and than extract a bitmap (B/W) area with subtitle text into a file. The sequence of this files would than be analyzed with SubRip (I already have a contact with autors) and a divx subtitle should be created.

So this is shortly about it. If you find this idea interesting please contact me, and a usefull program could be made. And applicable to many languages.

Thanks a lot for reading and hope to hear from you

Peter
