View Full Version : Shitframes with XviD

Hi, I downloaded a video clip off the net, encoded with XviD and surprisingly one of the scenes had some ugly shitframes. I thought only DivX3.11 had this problem? Anyone know what caused this problem? I have attached a picture this this post.

It was probaly encoded from a divx3 encode.

the first, it's a divx3 and not an xdiv.
take a look at the sub, there're ugly and the source video has no sub.
but i don't think that the encoder of this sub has changed the fourCC cause of it would be unreadable.

so the second and the only solution (i think) come from you soujir0u, you must decode this video with ffdshow and not with xvid. most of people has the ffdshow's build of the 17.06.02 and the decode can be ugly sometime with the last xvid build.

so, try to check the box (decode with xvid in ffdshow), i think this's the problem and that in fact the sub is perfect :p

see ya :)

Go get the Rice-Box version, if you want to see Witch Hunter Robin. :)

Before you post a bug, please determin the codec used by opening the file in VDub or GSpot [edit: or in avic] or by watching the 'info'-tab in ffdshow during playback. If there's only 'xvid' in the filename, it doesn't mean a thing, possibly some clueless guy renamed it.

I opened it with Virtualdub, and for decompressor, it says: "XviD MPEG-4 Codec". Maybe someone changed the FourCC?

If it's an old encode, it could suffer from the bugs that plagued PMVFAST when it was first implemented.

If not, it's a bug, but we can't really reproduce it without the source.

AFAIK the AKU-Version is originally in DivX 3.11, so i suppose it's a reencode/decoding error, too.

Go get the Rice-Box version, if you want to see Witch Hunter Robin

I prefer the HQA&Anbu Version, they have a better typeset imho.

Just how many groups are fansubbing this anime anyway?

Rice-Box, HQA/ANBU, AKUPiXEL, and AnimeCo.
Haha. Don't ask me why.

Rice-Box?!?! OMG, what are you thinking? HQA/ANBU are teh win. Sure, HQA did some pretty s****y encodes back in the day (Hand Maid May comes to mind), but after teaming up with ANBU, the quality has really improved. I absolutely loved their subs of RahXephon (which has been licensed - w00t!).

The only advantage to R-B is that they are faster. But fast != good quality (which ought to be obvious).

While we're OT, imho anbu has done two of the worst typesets I've seen, to name them, RahXephon and GAII.

Cheers

I have no major criticisms to draw about the Rice-Box version of Witch Hunter Robin, and I'm fairly picky. Have you watched them? Anyway.. HQA/ANBU is great too. Sorry for heading so far off the topic.

Do you guys think this anime is good? I've only d/led the first episode (takes forever with 56k), and it seems quite nice. But the version I have seems to have a squashed aspect ratio!

It's got a lot of style, but the plot never seems to go anywhere. Very episodic. I'm happy with it so far, but if it never wakes up and starts moving, I may grow bored.
