When using DVD2AVI I select decode to create a wav file instead of demux to create an AC3 file. I also select normal for the dynamic range control. Is this the same as the compress dynamic range in besweet? I was wondering how the results would differ between this too methods. Going from AC3 to mp2 as compared to wav to mp2.
I'm mostly interested it reducing the difference between the loud and soft parts of a movie. It seems from what I've read that normalization would not help to get the loud and soft parts closer but only compressing the dynamic range will.
Is selecting heavy for the dynamic range control a bad idea?
I'm trying demux for the first time and get a file with "DELAY 5ms", do I use that information when encoding to mp2.
Thanks

"Is this the same as the compress dynamic range in besweet?"
yes, but different engines, BeSweet uses Azid, the best.
"I was wondering how the results would differ between this too methods." higher quality in BeSweet due to the better engines and direct floating point process.

you should do both, -ota( -g max ) will do the normalizing and -azid( -c normal ) for the DRC

probably...Normal is what your software DVD player would do, so unless you feel the need for more than this, Normal should be pleanty.

yes, in -ota()
by the way, sorry about that, i accidently edited your post instead of replying

[/i] Thanks for your reply, this helps a lot. Does this mean if I use besweet/azid to do the normalization and the dynamic range compression I should unselect both of those when demuxing the AC3 in DVD2AVI?

when you demux in DVD2AVI, normalisation & DRC are disabled anyway (they aren't possible anyway in that mode)
