ASCD (?) for Win2k

Would any kindred spirit please inform if and where can i obtain
a compatible capture driver for Win2k2, if using a video card
'Asus pctv 3400'? I know there's a decoder available but that
seems to be all...

For the past 2 years i've captured all cableTV films i averaged interesting enough to. I've tried 4 different capture cards, (AverMedia, Hauppage, Pinnacle and, lately, PCTV 951), 3 video cards (RageFury, Radeon Ve and/or Asus PCTV 3400), a considerable number of different applications (lately only VDub and/or FlyCap) and codecs
(Div 3.11a, Div 4.12, Xvid, Div 5.01 and returning to Div 3.11a fm)
achieving results from barely acceptable up to, with '951', very fair.

Now i'm recycling my VHS tapes to CDs and willing to try the videoIN
device of the Asus card, but I've tried several times to download 'asuswcap.zip', for Win2k (WinXP induces trouble soundwise)
- and which i believe worthy of an attempt - from ftp://asus.de, but my proxy only allows browsing...

Hi Ookami,

Guess what my friend:
After many trials and fails i managed to use my other video card
(Asus agp 3400 tnt/tv/fm) as capture source throuh video IN!
Installed the Omega detonators (the last before version 40.xx--
which, as you know must be avoided because it has a Macrovision
encrypted sensor and trigger mechanism), plus the Wrapper for
vfw->wdm translation, and AsusLive 64b2 (usa.asuscom.com) and it
worked!!!
Now, the only problem is: 'transduction' form VFW for WDM (i work
with Win2k) demands an extra processing effort from the system
resulting in 'dropped frames'. I tested and tested (within VDub,
FlyCap, Avi_IO and, why not,AsusLive) and to my utmost suprise the
less prone to dropped frames was the latter, followed by FlyCap;
VDub inducing a larger number of drops and Avi_IO refusing to
capture after a little while claiming "there aren't buffers enough"
for the job.
Further I went on and reduced input from PAL, 25'000 fps down,
achieving zero drops (in AsusLive and FlyCap) when at the 22'000
level and mantaining aceptable A/V sinc.

Now, there's a query for your, please, advise:
Taking for granted everyother influencing component, just benching
over two aspects: Main Processor capacity & Ram quantity (and
forgeting they're obviously interwinned) how would you dim their
priority 1º Processor 2ª Ram, or viceversa?

Your feedback (others will also be wellcomed if sticking to the
point) will be very appreciated.

did you tried overclocking it?
it did the trick for me...
(vdub capture-btwincap-win2k:cel@600-->drops frames
cel@700-->doesn't drop...)

Thanks I4004.

Followed your advise, while conservatively though, achieving nearly
1 G from my 800 Duron and could reach 23,9xxx fps witin some 14 drops
per thousand frames captured.
My next problem, now is dealing with A/V sync (with ASUSLive)which i lost since... 3.11a fm allows better performance but i whish i could
'convince' virtualDub to use 4 v.4 instead of only 4 v.3.
If not i guess i'll have to stick to my dual boot win98se <-> win2k.
