All you really need are the codecs.
You can use WMCREATOR (http://www.dvd-digest.net/downloads/files/flaskmpeg/wmvcreator.zip) in Flask to make a WMV using the new codecs.
Thats how I did it before the windows media encoder came out.
I had the leaked Windows media player with codecs. Which left a nice "Windows XP Professional for testing purposes only. Build 2600" watermark on my desktop. I'll figure out how to get rid of that soon enough.
Just unzip that link above and put the contents into Flask.
I hate Flask, but it's the only reliable way I have found to make a movie. The M$ encoder crashes on me and I can't get Vegas Video to do anything nice. ;(
Good luck

Thanks Kyo!
It's gone now.
Anyone had any further success with DVD>WMV?
I figure Doom9 will have a guide soon that makes my way of doing it(flask w/wmvcreator) a little primative. I'm just a one or two step joe, never cared for playing with 5-6 different programs to convert.
I fgure someones making a new, simple DVD>WMV encoder as we speak(or already has).
PS
God Bless America!
