Should i change

I use smartripper 2.41, ReMPEG2.v152, Spruceup 1106, Ifo-Edit, and Primo Prassi v2 to do my dvds. i use these as that is what was on the dvd2dvd newbie guide. I am happy using these as there all straight forward to me as i know what to do now. The question is shall i change any programmes i'm using? are there any probs with any of them and is there any real difference on using other programmes.
I only use these to back up my Dvd's and nothing else so any tips would be nice.

Using CCE instead of ReMPEG2 would give you better quality as well as faster encoding times. Although if you remux with IFOEdit, this will no longer be possible. The process becomes more difficult if you want to retain menus and chapters. Just do a search on CCE & IFOedit and you should find the info you're looking for. GOOD LUCK!

Switch:

Smartripper with DVDDecrypter
Rempeg with CCE
IFOEdit with DVDMaestro

Then you should be good.

I prefer SmartRipper over DVDDecrypter but this is just personnal choice.
CCE for encoding as it is much faster and gives excellent results.
DVD Maestro for authoring as it is pretty simple to get started with but offers all the features you are ever likely to need.

I've just re-created the Lord of the Rings with Maestro & CCE and the quality is that good that you'll be hard pushed to tell between the original & DVD-R version and I included all the menus.

This level of detail takes ages (mostly to set up all the menus as each chapter point had its own menu) but the results are worthwhile.

I use RecordNow MAX to burn my DVDs but this is just personnal choice again.

but obtaining these products by any other than the legal way is a bit of a cow... and even then the legal way is farrrr too expensive

Thanks people, i will have a look at CCE and dvd maestro next. i already have CCE but i was using this for backing my dvds to svcd but it must be a similar process.(i think) LOL
I also have dvd decrypter but i find this similar to smartripper but i'm so used to smartripper i will stick with this one.
CCE a lot faster i hope so as a 3 hour dvd takse forever to re encode and its starting to really bug me :o)

Hmm... That's an interesting attitude for someone who is on a forum about COPYING DVD'S!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot, everybody on here paid $2900 for CCE, gave Steve Jobs a personal visit for their copy of Maestro, and uses their DVR-104 to backup their home movies.

I'm just curious, everytime this issue comes up about which programs to use, the encoder of choice seems to be CCE. I have CCE 2.5 and also the latest TMPGEnc. I find TMPGEnc by far easier to use, I did 1 re-encoding with CCE and the movie was fine on the computer but when burned to a DVD , the picture had a tremor. I suspect that the wrong field was loaded, but all those settings are automatic with the wizard in TMPGEnc. Is the speed of CCE the main bonus or are there other features that I am missing. So far I have done about a dozen DVD 9-5 using TMPGEnc and the picture quality is excellent on all. However whenever I read these forum entries I feel that my expectations must be inferior.
I also use Smartripper, followed by DVD2AVI, then TMPGEnc and DVDMaestro (love that program). Tried Scenarist with the manual and tutorial and gave up after spending a whole day trying to sort it out. Finally burn with Nero 5.5.9.9
