A friend of mine said that he read somewhere on the internet that there is a new sort of capture card on the market that can record the hdtv signal bit for bit, no digital-analog-digital, but digital-digital. is this true? and if so, does it record the mpeg-2 stream with DD and everything?

pci dvb cards do this:satellite signal is in digital form(of mpeg2)
so there's no real a/d conversion (although waves that come to sat.antenna are off-course analog but they carry digital signal)

off course there's no a/d conversion when there's no analog signal to start with!

this isn't the place for such topic i guess...
(& no miracles yet in the capturing field...hehehe)

yes do a search on google for HIPIX

it can save a HDTV stream yo your pc with out re encoding it just takes the mpeg2 transport stream and saves it to your pc it only works with over the air hdtv signals not devocies that use smaert cards so you need to mount a hdtv antenna outside your house
