How do you encode in batch mode... I've searched everwhere and can't seem to find "how" to do it... I'm encoding episodic DVDs and this feature would help a ton... please point me to a URL or tell me how...

Thanks in Advance

Just select 'rip only' after the 'go' button. In your start menu of Windoze is an link to 'run DVD2SVCD batch file', klick this after you ripped all disks.

Also remember that it is your responsibility to maintain the batch file. All entries are stored there and not automatically deleted after completion. Therefore before running the batch mode process be sure that you first click on edit batch mode. This will open a notepad window with the batch mode entries. Edit out all those you do not want to do. Then save. Then proceed to run batch mode.

Shouldn't this be in the basic section? I've searched that Forum for Info like this just a while ago.

Yes this should be posted in the basic section.

Batch mode is great to process DVD rips, but does it work for aviŽs ? And how ? Sure you could hit "start conversion", stop it, copy DVD2SVCD.ini and .d2s file (anything else?) into an extra folder, edit the .ini file blablabla....
Would be great to have a button which says : create batch
Just a suggestion.

January 2003, I've just started to use the Batch Mode but I must say that I spent quite a few searches in this forum before finding how it does work (very simply after all...)

=> Could any one put the quick instructions on how to use DVD2SVCD Batch file in the FAQ ?

It would be easier for anyone who wants to use it for the 1st time.

Cheers

IŽm searching a while, too...

I need your help, because I simply didnŽt get the point out of batch prozessing.

- Is it for rip only?

I have some anime DVD which IŽll backup.
There are 4 to 5 episodes on each.
Usually I rip every episode with DVDdecrypter and then show DVD2SVCD the "*.ifo"-file of every specific episode.

It would be easier to batch convert a whole DVD,
but some problems remaining for me:

The *.vaf and *.mpv file have to be deleted after every episode and
DVD2SVCD keeps them even if I say "donŽt".
- Can I control teh output path for every job in the batch?
Otherwise every new job will overwrite the old one...

Any hints how to do that? (and yes: I read the manual! and do a search here - but still being confused I have to ask, sorry)

kind regards

Harald

Personally what I do is :

- Setup dvd2svcd as follows :
+ bitrate : calculate how many epidodes you want to place on 1 cd (personally, I try to stick with 60mn of mpeg2 video on 80mn CDRs) => adjust de bitrate tab (for instance for each of my 20mn episodes, I put "up to 25 mn => use 269 Mo CD" bcause it is 795/3=265 and to get 265Mo mpeg files, you would put 270 Mo CD in the bitrate tab and I put 269 for more safety - after that I always have 79'55'' length CD to burn, that's cool !)
+ burning : I don't create image file with dvd2svcd => I just create mpeg files and compile them together with Nero SVCD project.

- Create as many folders as the number of episodes you want to convert

- "Rip only" every episode, each one in a different folder => this will add lines in the "dvd2svcd batch file"

- When finished with the ripping, take a deep breath and "Run the dvd2svcd batch file" => this will process all the lines in the batch files (maybe you want to check the file before / remove some lines)

- When finished, you should have one mpeg file in each folder, then you can take these files and use nero to quickly author you svcd and burn it

Good luck !

On more tip : ALWAYS rip using dvd2svcd internal routines

Thank you!
IŽll try it tonight.

BTW : I use VCDEASY or TSCV for Authoring...

...yes, I did it.
And it worked somehow (to my surprise).

But one point is left:
I would like to in clude my own avisynth script into the batch encoding.
At normal encodes I choose to edit my script when DVD2avi is done.
- And I still have to do that with the batch encode, but with different pathes in every script, because my episodes are in different folders.

Is there a way to include a fixt script and DVD2SVCD cares about the right pathes?

kind regards

Harald

Here is one of my more recent posts. You need to edit the ini file to add your own personal avs script.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44018

Or, after ripping, you can run the conversion up to the point where you edit the avs, then close DVD2SVCD after editing the avs. Do that for each project in your batch file and then run the batch like normal.

Regarding the burning of my episodes encoded with dvd2svcd, I do have a problem which I first posted in the "SVCD Authoring" forum but since I didn't get any answer, I would like to submit it here. Maybe the audience is higher here and I might get some help because I still couldn't find any solution...

Has anyone ever had this problem with Nero ?

I use Nero to quickly author SVCDs on which I put 3 episodes of my favorite soap (Friends, not to name it) and I use the "Enable Menu" feature of Nero to display a nice menu picture with the names of the episodes, etc. The episodes are encoded using dvd2svcd.

Sometimes, my SVCD would just not work. After a bit of investigation, I found that the menu picture is incomplete. I could see it with SthSDVD => the last "blocks" in the bottom right of the picture are green, like if they where missing on the disk !?! I'm pretty sure that's what makes my dv-444 refuse to read the disk.

I thought that was because I put too much data on the disk so I cut 10 MB (using TMPG) of 1 episode => still doesn't work (actually, when I searched in this direction I could see all the MPG files are all written ok on the CD)

I tried to reduce the burning speed to 4x => doesn't work

Note that I had the same pb with Verbatim CDRs and SilverCircle ones.

And sometimes, my SVCDs work perfectly using exactly the same method.

I'm so out of idea here !! If any one has an idea , it would be very welcome !

Thanks
Ric

What does this have to do with Batch Mode?

It's just the continuation of my previous post in this thread where I explained how to encode episodes and where I mentioned Nero to author the SVCD.
Ok, shall I open a new thread for my problem ?
