A friend of mine has a VMagic (plus? I'm not sure).
On the one hand I think it's great because you can program it more easily than any vcr and it records in good quality. However it can't record to avi formats, only to mpeg and mpeg2. Also, not many programs except the proprietary software seem to accept the card as a capture device.

I think it's worth it if you really need a good programmable device to record shows on a daily basis and/or if you need quick mpeg/mpeg2 encoding. The mpeg2 quality is quite good, but I'm sure a good SW encoder like CCE is still better.
