Hi, im new here ;)
Ive tried to search on this topic but I didnt find what Im looking for.
What res. should I use on a divX movie, cause when I rip the movie gets like 950 meg, and that dont seems to change when I change the res. Maybe im using to high, so then I wounder what size to use.

Welcome to the Forum!
You don't say what tools you are using, so this may not apply.
If you happen to use Gordian Knot with DivX 3 or DivX 5:
Follow Doom9's guide for initial estimation, using the b/p*f value
Run a compressibility test.
Adjust your resolution using the loading factor produced by the test, using Doom9's recommendations.
Re-test at your selected resolution, as adjustment to resolution will change compressibility.
Run your encoding.
If you're encoding in 2-pass, bitrate mode, the file size will only change when you change the bitrate.
Getting different file sizes by changing the resolution only works with quality-based encoding.

Hmm, does that mean that I can like have the res. the same as on the DVD? And that would still use the same size in MB?
Or should I change the pass so that I dont make then in 2-pass?

You could use the same resolution as the dvd but that is not advisable. theReal is right in that the only way to change the filesize is to change the bitrate. But you need to remember that if you lower the bitrate (to reduce the filesize) then you also need to lower the resolution. If you don't then you will get alot of blocking in your video. There is a fine balance between the bitrate and resolution of your video. Please check out the fine guides on this site for more info.

Or should I change the pass so that I dont make then in 2-pass?Rather do what Mac Sidewinder said: find a good balance between resolution and bitrate.
You could use quality-based encoding, but then you can't predict the filesize at all.

Unless your a committed flask follower (then you ought to be committed - just kidding), why not give GordianKnot a try. D/l the software and the full guide, spend some time with it and you will find that it makes deciding on resolution and bitrate much easier.
