View Full Version : A Quick Question on RW

I'm trying to get the hang of this thing (IfoEdit) without pestering y'all with old questions. However, the mainstay of experimenting for me is burning a disc and seeing if it flies. But man, the buck a pop for DVD-R's adds up. So, my question is; if my set-top player plays my RW disc but has problems (freezing at chapter points, etc.) can I assume it is my authoring that causes the problem and not the media? Or..........., If it sees and plays an RW disc at all can I assume it handles the RW media and the problem is me?

Since the media has no idea where a chapter point is, it's a good bet your vts pointers are off.
That form of stuttering is caused by linkages beyond the end of the cell. When the VobID/CellID changes when the the pointers say it should not the player has to dump the buffer and reread the data.

Thanks! Actually, I was surprised that I got any video at all. I just threw some VOB's and vst files into the imager to see what my player would make of the RW media. I was amazed that not only did it play, but that the only problem is having to manually move to the next chapter. I just wanted to insure that my experiments will work on RW media since the manufacturer says my player doesn't support re-writable media. But it seems to me that if it won't read RW disc I'd just get a "DISC ERROR" message instead of bad playback. I'm running the files through IfoEdit for real now. I'd like to check them before burning in IfoEdit's player, but it crashes every time I try it.

Every now and then, when doing a backup, I get a movie that will play fine in infoedit, but on the desktop player, the movie jumps to the start of the chapters, and goes all the way to the end of the disk and hangs. Is this the same as you talked about above and can you tell me how to fix this problem? I burn on dvdrw first to test, and have gotten this problem about three times with different movies.

thank you for any help

Doesn't sound the same. But, there is still an obvious pointer problem whenever there is any strange behaviour. There are so many pointers in DVD it's a wonder anyone gets it right. (about 100 pointers for every second of playback time)

mpucoder,
thank you for your help,

I've done about 35 movies but I realy feel like a newbie on this problem.
Is there any way to correct the pointers and if so could you tell me how.

I'm having the same problem with Crouching tiger hiden dragon, I ripped it with only english 5.1 and reset the audio to x:80, using DVD Decrypter, used infoedit to make new ifo's then did get VTS several times, till it played okay in infoedit. After burning to a dvdrw the movie will not play right on the desktop player, jumps to the start of all the chapters and then stops and will not play at all in power dvd, but using infoedit the dvdrw will play fine.

thank you for your help
