Movie Specific

Hi,

I've been ripping movies for the past few months (done nearly 30 now), so I'd like to think I know a bit about ripping (I use Smartripper in the first instance). I am also use DVD2AVI, AVIsynth, CCE, Spruce Up, Nero, DVD Factory, DVD workshop etc .....

Problem is, every now and then, a movie comes along that "causes me problems". By this I mean, I'm not able to rip by my "normal method". Now I won't go into detail what this is, suffice to say, it works about 60% of the time. No problem, because I have 2nd , 3rd, even 4th methods of ripping a DVD movie (i.e. movie form DVD-9 to DVD-5).

BUT.

Every now and then, a movie comes along that creates "new challenges".

My latest "challenge" is in the form of "Monster Inc" (region 2). I've ripped the movie no problem, but I also want to rip the "extra" "birds". It's one of the funniest movies I have watched (it only lasts 3 mins or so).

Smartripper says it is proper to "title 3 chapter 1" But I can't seem to rip it. Any advise would be welcome. However, my wider point is, how about a section for "hard to rip movies" or "Unusual to rip movies"

I'm starting to check a movie by name now, before I rip, just to see if it has a problem.

Anyone else have any thought on this issue ????

Have you tried the "Decrypting" section of this forum? Of course it is not like a database, but it would seem to be the most appropriate.

my suggestion or my approach to such a problem (not getting ripped the wanted part) is usually to go the hard way:

copy ALL the DVD (in smartripper it's called backup I think) to the HD. That way no files are changed and then you go with your Program and open the VOBfiles till you find what you wanted.

(well I never used DVD2avi but might be same as in Flask or Xmpeg. Open the VOB, not the IFO. that way you see everything there is, also the menus (though in strange order sometimes)).

well it's the hard way but with me it always leads to results when searching something specific...

Thanks for the tip. I had backed up ALL files, but everything point to vts_03, but the video was in vts_02. (played in Windows Media)

After that, it was just a case of renaming the VOB to vts_01, and then using Ifoedit to create new IFOs

Thinking about it, I should have tried this before.

I guess it just goes to show, your'e never to old to learn new tricks.

Hi once again...
I forgot one situation that doesn't work with 1:1-copies from DVDs to the HD (such as Smartripper's 'Backup' does).
Here's the situation:
when some video is in multi-angle (I remember Fight-club's special-features-DVD being full of multi-angle clips) you have to copy it with the IFO, else you get some video that looks very stange (about 3 seconds of the fisrt angle, then 3 secs of the second angle and so on).
If we combine this with your initial problem (which means having a multi-angle clip and not finding it through the IFO), I'd say we have a problem ;)
