I have heard that using WinRAR it is possible to take a very large file, or even multiple files, and back them up in such a way that WinRAR will make more than one backup file and can make each backup file the perfect size for a 700MB CD-R Disc allowing you to archive otherwise large file(s) over several CD-R Discs. You then have to copy each of the back-up RAR files to your HDD and then use WinRAR to re-create the original large file(s).
I have heard that people use this method to back up an entire DVD to several CD-R Discs. My estimation is that a single sided single layer DVD would need around 6 or 7 CD-R discs. Maybe that is crazy but I only have a CD burner, not a DVD burner, and we all know how damn cheap CD-R media is now-a-days.
Also, I have a couple of DivX files I made myself that are of super almost as good as the original DVD in quality, but they are very large, almost to the 2GB file limit (I use Win98 SE). It would be nice to back these files up in the way mentioned above rather than having to split the file up into three chucks with Nandub just to back-up to 700MB CD-R Discs.
So, can anyone give some instructions on how to use WinRAR to do this? I have used WinRAR to decode RAR files but never to encode so while I am no computer newbie I am a WinRAR encoding newbie so any help would be greatly appreciated.
