View Full Version : Anime Subtitle/Audio Problems Flask + Divx5.02

I dabble in converting US anime dvds to avi using Flask v594, Divx.502 and VirtualDub 1.3c to cut and join avi pieces (I don't have the time to use anything more complicated/time-consuming as this is just for fun). I want Japanese audio and English subtitles. Most of the time I can just select the first Japanese audio and the first English subtitle tracks in Flask and everything works fine (many of the US anime dvds I've seen have multiple audio and/or subtitle tracks for the same language).

These days I'm finding that more often than not that this won't work. I end up with an avi that has the audio/subtitles cutting out/disappearing in regular intervals. It's almost like the dvd was designed to weave together multiple a/s tracks during playback (hence the two to three tracks for the same language?). i.e., Tenamonya Voyagers - audio cutting out in regular intervals, Soul Hunter - subtitles cutting out in regular intervals.

Trying to fix this problem I just tried the Gordian Knot for the first time. I ripped using the SmartRipper v241 though. Everything works fine till I try to load the DVD2AVI project. GKnot keeps saying it's not a valid file. I believe it should be valid, though I've only used DVD2AVI twice before and that was many moons ago. So I still prefer nice simple Flask.

Probably I'm not doing something right. Can someone help me out with some pointers? I've searched under "Anime" and look through the 500+ entries, and a lot more others under other searches but I still haven't found anything. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi-Welcome to the forums.

GKnot won't accept the .d2v made from SmartRipper. Make a fresh .d2v using the version of DVD2AVI that comes included with GKnot. If that still doesn't work (although I believe it should), use the version of SmartRipper included with GKnot. You can get into trouble using tools other than those included with GKnot.

If you have trouble with DVD2AVI, maybe check out Doom9's DVD2AVI Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2avi.htm). If you have trouble with GKnot and DivX5, then check out his GKnot-DivX5 Basics Guide (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-basics-divx5.htm), and his GKnot-DivX5 Encoding Guide (http://www.doom9.org/gknot-divx5.htm).
