Ifoedit is already a really great program. Instead of trying to get cce or tmpeg to mux streams back into it, why couldnt someone just re-write rempeg to produce better quality instead?

Because no one has the source. It would mean starting from scratch or an uncommented disassembly. It may happen someday, but IfoEdit should also, ideally, take any video stream from any encoder, providing it matches the original in displayed frames.
