After ripping a DVD, I tried playing back the VOBs in DVD2AVI. The playback was more or less fine, except at times I would see artifacts appear on the screen, and then fade away over the next few frames -- similar to what it looks like when you get DivX encoding errors.
I DO NOT lose the whole picture, I just get artifacts.
So there are 2 possibilities here:
1) The rip is somehow messed up.
2) The rip is fine, but the the playback (combiniation of DVD2AVI and my video drivers) is indroducing what looks like errors (color issues or something -- who knows).
Can anyone tell me if they have seen this before and why it happened to them? Or, if not, can anyone describe to me what various types of decryption errors look like (I've never had any before), so I can decide for myself whether it is in the rip or the playback.
System info:
Athlon 900 MHz
Windows 2000 SP2 (recently reinstalled -- not attempted ripping since this reinstall)
Asus V7700 (Geforce2 GTS)
DVD2AVI (dunno what version -- probably whatever was current in the spring)
SmartRipper (no ASPI -- tried versions 227,23x? -- same results for both)
I doubt it matters, but FYI I'm also ripping to a Samba drive mounted from my Linux box.
