Hi all again!
I have made a dozen of vcd/svcd/avi movies using flask. I always made them on the double: one in my own language and another in English + subtitle. No problem up till now. However, I would like to make a miniDVD (253x240) with 2 audio tracks and 2 subtitles.
I have Lord Of The Rings ripped (smartripper - backup mode)on my HD. I was helped out with extracting the ac3's. I intend to make 3 Cdr's.
I guess I will need to encode a vob and then have it split. I just don't know what software I will need. I have access to DVDMaestro, SpruceUP and Scenarist. But noone I know has either Streamweaver or QuickBuilder. Will any one of the 3 above do? What type of subtitle will I need?
Thanks
PS I am willing to reencode each ac3 to 128 kbps.

hello again,
this is a tricky question about what software u'll need.
1st of all I would like to know what is the brand of your dvd player that u'll be feeding the mini dvds with.
This is a draft guideline of what i used to do when I was authoring miniDVDs.
U say that u want 2 audios + 2 subs. My gues u r not going to have menus on the miniDVD cause the length is 2:51:00 and your cds are only 3.
At resolution 352x288 (PAL vcd) each cd contains about 74 mins of audio video at 1150kbs Video and 224 Audio. U have to reencode audio to 128 that makes 256kbs. The rest of the bandwith goes to video.
If u dont have 'DV Tools 024' download a copy from dooms site that will help u to determine the maximum duration for your video or max bitrate of it.
Mine tells me that for 60 min of video at 256 audio u have to have max constant bitrate of 1200kbs. This low bitrate demands vcd resolution.
After u have encoded the audio video to your desire open up subrip
extract bmp subtitles with time code and save them as son or sst file, depending up on your authoring prog. U can use Maestro or Scenarist but not SpruceUp cause it does not supports subs.
In both progs u can trim video and audio to a given duration without losing sync of the audio or subs.
U will to do 3 builds one for every cd
Details or probs that might arise from using these progs r unlimited but r covered in doom's guides.
pls fell free to contact me if u encountered a situation u can not cope with.

Hi ODDYSEUS!
Thanks for ur repply.
At the moment, I own an LG DVD-3230N. I became aware that it is one of the worst set-top players around. It won't play cdr. I Wish I knew that by the time I bought it. I intend to move to a brand capable of playing cdr, mp3 and stuff. But for now, I am playing my cdr movies on my PC.
I also mentioned 3 cds as an example. I noticed that some flicks turn out quite good with a certain bitrate. On the other hand, some requires more bitrate.
I am gonna use 700Mb cdrs. I have already made some calculations (dvtools). I will look for you again by the time I have all the assets gathered together (or if I face some problems).
Thanks again for your support.
