XviD Source Code help

Hi!
I am pretty much a newbie with MPEG-4 and stumbled upon XviD. I have download the source for windows and would like to seek assistance in certain areas. Since it is based on MPEG-4, the video would be decomposed to or encoded to different elementary streams? Which part in the source code is this taking place? After encoding to the various ES, does multiplexing take place? Which part again in the source is this? Thanks!

PS: Are there solutions for speeding up streaming of video over the internet?Thanks again!

This is a codec for VFW, DShow - and any *NIX muxers, producing an avi-bitstream usually.

MP4 FF encoding would make an extra encoding application necessary.

What you're looking for sounds like MP4IP (or something similar), look in the "new a/v formats" forum for that.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I don't actually require streaming. I have looked at the source. I myself am not very proficient in C. I was just wondering which part of the source code, perhaps in encoder.c does the encoding into the ES. The streaming question is another thing. Just need to find out how I can speed up streaming. Was just thinking about your reply. Are you saying that the XviD codec does not encode the video into its various elementary streams?

Seizing the opportunity. At xvid's page, before Sigma's episode there were some links to MPEG-4 related documents.

Does anybody know where I can find those documents?

XviD codec compresses images. Takes images as imput and returns compressed video as output, and biceversa.
Splitting multimedia streams in video, audio channels, etc is a different task and it is not done by xvid.

XviD writes *only* a natural video stream, with VOL/VOP headers. Anything else is the responsibility of the systems layer.

You can find MPEG-4 information at http://mpeg.telecomitalialab.com/working_documents.htm , particularly in the MPEG-4 section. The most useful document would probably be the Video Verification Model.

Wow..that article is 412 pages long! Haha.. Anyway, is there an existing codec that splits the video into the elementary streams then?

Video can't be split into elementary streams, because it's an elementary stream itself. If you want to analyze streams in an MP4 systems file (i.e. video, audio, hint, etc.), you want MPEG4IP - http://mpeg4ip.sf.net .

Hey thanks! Been looking at mpeg4ip. Seems there are only two elementary streams to it(the .avi and .aac). Is there any movie that can have more than these two streams? Mpeg4ip muxs these two files. Wonder if there are movies that can be split into more streams like the mpeg-4 systems described.
