Realtime mpeg2 capture software... which one?

I currently use an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon, with the MMC 7.7 I can now capture at a good quality, but since I cannot edit my captured encoded video, I don't want to re-edit my mpeg2 file and re-encode it again.

Is there any other software available that captures direcly in MPEG-2 with some useful options like borders and resize ?

Or is there any other capture software or any tools that can do a crop and addborders to an MPEG2 file which doesn't need to re-encode again without loss of quality ?

If you want to capture using Mpeg-1 or Mpeg-2 compression

You capture in Mpeg-2 already? There are softwares out there that let you edit Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2 files, as far as I know, losslessly. TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools feature, for example. Womble MPEG-VCR and M2-Edit pro are two others you may want to try. M2-Edit is very expensive, though.

Cropping and adding borders to an Mpeg-file normally require a transcode, i.e. I do not believe it's possible to do such operations without re-encoding the video.

A big thanx for your reply, Swan!

Although, I wont capture my VHS tapes directly to MPEG2 since none of known software can do it already at the capture process. I have installed PowerVCR and it is worst (IMHO) than ATI's TV software. The problem with ATI is that he crops the shit if we ask it to do it, but doesn't resize automatically to the standard size of the initial capture, in my case 720x480.

I have anyway read a document informing me of the principle of the codecs differences ( spacial and temporal ) and the best for me is to continue the way I already was, that is capturing with a lossless avi codec like PicVideo MJPEG, and then encoding with CCE frameserving by avisynth. I have tried to avoid myself the encoding time process, but with CCE it isn't much pain as with TMPGEnc!

Dont know if it is what you are looking for, Lady Tatjahna, but you could try to capture with your ATI software, and load the files into DVD2avi and GKnot afterwards, then do everything you like, save the avs scripts and goto another program and load the scripts for encoding. I did it this way (converting to divx in VDub) sometimes and the results were good and the work was simple.
