Hi

i got the Jackie Brown DVD and it includes a WIDESCREEN version of the movie, you can switch to it by selecting widescreen in the Language menu, so i guess the vobs i ripped with DVD Decrypter include both versions...but when i used DVD2AVI to create a pseudo avi, and tried to encode the movie in Nandub, i got the Widescreen version, how can i encode the normal version of the movie from the vobs i ripped ?

When you have two versions of the same movieon a single disc, they are usually stored in seperate angles. You should try to rip the second angle in DVDDecrypter.

I don't know for sure if DVDDecrypter has multiangle capability, otherwise there's always SmartRipper.

Hmm but there were only a bunch of vob files on the dvd which would be big enough to include the normal edition...the other vobs just included the interviews, trailers and stuff.

According to IMDB (http://us.imdb.com/DVD?0119396), only the German R2 version has both widescreen and fullscreen, so I guess that's what you have. They would be on the same set of vobs but, as Acaila said, probably different angles.

To access the different angles in the newer versions of DVD Decrypter, go Tools-Settings-File Mode-MultiAngle Processing.

The problem is that i ripped the VOBs to my HD with DVD Decrypter, and without the DVD you cant extract single streams from the vobs in dirs on hard drives, just from DVD.

Any ideas on that ? Or maybe other programs i could try with ?

Nothing I know of can re-rip a VOB once it's off the DVD. Besides, chances are DVD Decrypter ripped the widescreen angle only (if it didn't you'd see two movies running across eachother which would screw it up completely).

Is there any way i can make the widescreen version look normal ? I mean its basically a better source...

Hi-

GKnot can do it while still keeping correct AR. You start hacking away at the sides until it's 1.33:1 or thereabouts (640x480). But I wouldn't recommend doing that. In creating widescreen from the fullscreen, video was already cut from above and below. If you cut more from the left and right, you'll lose even more of the picture. In addition, 640x480 is a heck of a lot more difficult to compress to the same file size than 640x352. But it's up to you.

yea, i actually dont want to cut the movie...

i am still wondering about those vobs, the normal version must be included there, cause like i said no other vobs were on the DVD which would fit to be the movie. aren't there any other rippers which can extract this stream from the ripped vobs ? Smartripper didnt help, because it just rips from dvd source and has no stream processing tool for ripped vobs.. :confused:

or is it possible to stretch the ws edition in DVD2AVI ?

i really should consider to rent the cd a second time :D

Hi-

I haven't had much experience with VStrip, but it can work with vobs on the hard drive. You choose the .ifo file in the IFO tab, and with luck the angles will show up. Doom9 has a couple of guides on VStrip.

As for stretching the movie to fill the screen, it's easy enough, but you really don't want to do that. Everybody will get really skinny. You don't want to do that to the lovely Pam Grier, do you? ;)

And as for calling the full screen version of Jackie Brown the "normal" version: evidently Tarrantino actually filmed it at 1.33:1, but it was released in the theaters in Widescreen 1.85:1, and in the other DVD versions including the recently released Collector's Edition, it's Anamorphic Widescreen. I would think they'd have a better claim to being the "normal" versions. I'd leave it the way it is.
