View Full Version : Decent quality pitch correction

Since NTSC movies look like cr*p an my TV set (too bright, too much flicker, cheap TV), I always convert all of my NTSC movies to PAL. Unfortunately the 4% speedup gives me a slight chipmunk-effect, so I tried to correct the pitch using WaveLab 3.0. It worked, the audio and video were in sync, but the quality was not to great.
Is there any software out there that will do a good job?

I know of these 3 programs: Amazing Slowdowner and Musician's CD player (http://www.ronimusic.com/) and slycer (http://www.sineqube.com/software.html)(mac only) I haven't tried them out so not sure about the quality, but they look very interesting.

Go for the VERY BEST STATE OF THE ART software time stretcher on this planet: Prosoniq TimeFactory. It produces absolutely artifact free sound files, as the ones you hear on good PAL DVDs!
Give it a try!

BTW, I never knew that WaveLab, a 500US$ software, could be that bad on time stretching. I was also surprised that CoolEdit was no better.

PS: check your PM ;)

[EDIT]
Be sure to select "polyphonic (best)" and to check "preserve formants" for highest possible quality! the results will be outstanding!

Well, the BeSweet works fine for me. Have you try it? DSPguru tells that only the standard conversions works fine (NTSC -> PAL & PAL -> NTSC)

You missed the whooooole point! BeSweet does the worst conversion there is: there is no pitch correction! Converted from NTSC to PAL, voices will become more like Mickey Mouse.
To keep the voices in their natural tone, pitch correction must be done. As stated above, WaveLab & CoolEdit do this, but not perfectly.
The ONLY software that does it correctly and in studio quality is TimeFactory!

BTW, check your PM... :D
