Can't get tv-out to work with Matrox g400

Whenever i try to make an xvid rip work with my matrox g400 max i a strange thing happening. Its hard to explain but ill try. On the tv screen there are 3-4 horizonal rows of the movie, and in each row there is like 3-4 groups, and all of this is in black and white. So make sure it wasnt my drivers i tried a divx rip and it was like normal. I dont think that i cant play xvid on tvout but then again i dont know much about this codec. Sorry if this is a noob question, but i just wanted to know...so if anyone out there has an solutions i would be more then greatfull to hear them

Your movie`s resolution is wrong. Width and height are not devideable by 32 (or 16).

There is a filter you can get that fixes this by padding the width to a multiple of 32 for Matrox cards. But I don't use TV out and can't remember the name.

Great Milan`s ffdshow filter can adjust reolution and croping.
Give it a try.

I dont think that DivXG400 will work on xvid, but only on Divx. Ill try it anyway and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice!!

Have ran the g400 on dual monitors here for years and xvid gets dragged from desk top to desk top no problem.

Zplayer msplayer windvd powerdvd they all work.

I would check ur matrox setup and ensure ur running dual heads separate resolution and ur tv res is set to 800x600

How to do THAT with a Matrox? (Mine is a G400max)

I feed my TV always via "DVDmax", and there´s no resolution to set. (?)

And, to give my usual 2 cents about TV-out:

-> Matrox has the BEST TV-out that I have ever seen! <-

In my encoding machine, there is an ATI AIW 8500DV doing its pretty work. I don´t complain about the TV-out, it´s okay.

But for sure, my old Matrox does this job much better.

And Nvidea - well, they always TRY to do TV-out. But it´s not more than a try ... ;)

No my friend u have a dual head card and you are treating it like a tv out.

I too have the g400max soon the Parh

dvd max is not what you want you want to run dual monitors at separate resolutions. This opens up two desk tops click on the bourder of ur zoom player and drag it to the right, right off ur monitor to ur TV (my 32" monitor.

this is the Xvid forum and Yes xvid works just purfect with the matrox cards in dual head mode. i suggest you vist the FAQ and Forums of Matrox.com and learn ur dual monitor card. Buy ati if you want dvdmax tv out. Hope this helps

I have done a lot of divx3 at /16 and no problems. I have a tendence to keep at /32 now through dont know Y habit i guess

Well very good for u 32 dots of dvd mpeg4 etc?I referred to the TV´s resolution being too low to make it usable as a second monitor: you can hardly read anything ... exept for really BIG letters, much greater then the usual ~9-12 dot desktop fonts.

What did you mean with the above? I can´t grab the sense.

Sorry i will try to be a little clearer

The matrox card is dual head you can run two independant desktops at different resolutions. On one you can have ur favorite xvid capture playing full screen (on ur 800x600 res 32 dot tv) and the other you can be working in vdub on your 19" 1600x1200 monitor. You never change resolutions and it becomes just taking powerdvd and draggin it over to ur 2nd monitor (ur tv) and opening it full screen. Ur mouse is on ur tv operating all controls of the player. You have two desktops to do way you will with (win 2000, xp).

Once in dual head dvdmax become redundant and of no use.

Well - you´re right, but I´m not wrong ...

The procedure you mentioned for sure is elegant, as long as it goes for operating. But it also does have it con´s.

- Though I "only" use DVD-max, I never have to change resolution. Why should I? Desktop has its usual size, which is 1280*960, and up to this DVD-max is functional.

- For me, monitor and TV are not side-by-side. In fact, they about 6 meters away from each other.

- Using a second desktop on the TV has a *major drawback*. Doing this, you force the usage of a standard resolution, like 640*480, or more likely 800*600.
This degrades image quality, since the TV is fed with a resolution that it can´t really display, and additional scaling (or whatever tricks are going on inside) has to take place.
The point of interest is that, using DVD-max, Matrox produces a natural overscan signal. (I´ve even read somewhere that Matrox cards are the only ones that are capable of doing this.) This assures minimal distortion of TV´s display.
To obtain the best possible, I have ffdshow configured to resize to 768*576. This can be converted 1:1 to PAL by the G400. No matter how near I get to my TV, no matter how close and carefully I look: The IQ is PERFECT.
I can´t say that this is the same for my (expensive) ATI 8500DV. There is no native PAL creation, and the TV is always fed with standard resolutions, which somehow get squeezed into the PAL signal. The difference is *obvious*.
(There is some weird overscan support, quietly buried in the depths of ATI´s drivers. Still somehow buggy, that´s why it is hidden and has to be activated by a registry hack. I wonder if ATI will ever get this working correctly!)

- When you get your Parhelia ... what will you do with the third monitor? ;)

My tv is a 32 inch proscan which is an 800x600 rgb connected monitor that sits 4 meters away and i can read on it. So i guess there is not to many cons for me since my tv is high definition.

Well the new matrox will come in a new amd box so i will run faster and hopefully have no problems when the new tomb raider comes out.

As for the third monitor? maybe watch tv in bed ;)
