In his guide he says to use half the size of the bitmaps plus a bit more as a rule of thumb for how much space the subs will take up.

But I compiled a DVD-R with and without subs (bitmaps amounting to 296 MB) and it was ~4.10 GB in both instances. I used vobsub on the DVD-R and the .sub file was like 6 MB (same as original DVD).

His guide was a great help to me and I'm sure others, but perhaps it could be edited in this regard - as it stands it might lead people to not bother with subs. e.g. I wasn't going to include English subs (English is my first language but they can come in handy for visitors, etc) but will now I know the space they take up is so tiny.

This is of course assuming I am I correctand have not made a stupid error somewhere.

BTW I used the search feature and didn't find any mention of this issue ;)

the actual size of the subs in mbs for a 2 hour movie should be less that 10mb or at lest very close at it give and take 2mbs.

I now for sure from my old miniDVD days where the overhead of 10mb in the size of a CDR allways compansated for the subs.
