help 25 --> 23.976 FPS

Can somebody tell me how to convert 25fps to 23.976 (nativ anime framerate) in avisynth scripts ?
from NTSC DVD it's easy: deinterlace + inverstelecine, but from PAL DVD i don't find how to ...

Just one question: WHY?

If you don't have extra frames/fields added to keep the playtime constant then there is no need to change the framerate.

If you do have doubled frames then they can be removed with:Loadplugin(decomb.dll)
Telecide() #If you are lucky you don't need telecide
Decimate(cycle=25)
This will give you 24fps. Using Assumefps(23.976) is likely to produce audio desynch or requires some modifications of the audiotrack length.

A lot of Anime DVD in PAL seems to have been converted from NTSC and have thus had their frame/field structure destroyed and the best thing you can do there is try to filter away the worst artifacts.

ConvertFPS() will create new frames by blending old ones together. Looks awful (IMHO all blending is awful.)

ChangeFPS() will drop frames, but as I recall it only relies on mechanical counting when deciding what frames to drop, and is likely to create jumpy (jerky) video.

In almost all cases it is better to use Decimate() to change framerate. It will, within a cycle, find the frame that is most similar to it's predecessor and remove it.

hum... maybe it's a stupid idea but what about:

or

Changefps(29.970)
inversetelecine(40,10,15)

If you have 25fps, and you use AssumeFPS to change to 29.97fps, you don't really have 30 frames (29.97) per second. You still have only 25. hakko gave you the code for about as close as you'll get to 23.976 (i.e. 24fps)

Try that out and come back with the results. Do some troubleshooting, some discovery. Its much more rewarding than trying to have everything handed to you in a 'Guide^H^H^H^H^Hsilver platter ;)
