i just installed the new detonator 40 drivers... and as far as i see they work perfect! and the performance boost IS definitely there...
just ONE problem:
the nvidia specific register under display properties/ advanced is somehow buggy and crashes!
does anybody else have this problem or know a solution for it

a) the drivers are told to produce roblems with TV out. I don't use TVout so i can't verify this.
b) READ THE GUIDES!
Nvidia clearly states HOW to install the driver!
c) Since you don't go to read the guid as else you wouldn't have asked:
1: go to system/software and uninstall the drivers.
2: reboot your machine as requested.
3: install the new drivers again
4: reboot as requested
5: finally, you're done and have a working control panel.
d) ALWAYS uninstall the old driver before installing a new one. I think Nvidia sets emphasis on this by writing it in HUGE letters everywhere.

deinstall the driver, reboot, reinstall the driver
on some machines you need to remove all nv*.* files from your Windows\System32 directory before reinstalling the driver. Do this in Safe Mode.

Nvidia 40.41 drivers enable macrovision by default, so one can't watch movies in tv-out.
To desable see the thread i made in the pchardware forum:

Now that's weird. I have a gf4 mx 440 and it had MV even with older drivers. Of course, I only use the TV as a fullscreen device :D, therefore no problems.
40.41 drivers work perfect for me. Their biggest advantage: overscan controls.

Herske, that's the trick :), enabling the second output as fullscreen. But since it isn't enabled by default, some people are having problems to see tv-out.

I dunno but Quake 3 and Jedi look real ugly with these drivers so i went back to 30.82

thanks for all your helpful posts about the video out. never was the topic of this post though, and i think i never wrote about it in the first palce!
but anyway: i did all the uninstalling rebooting and new installing and it did not help s***
i also removed all the nv*.* files... didn't help a bit either
but well anyway... i guess i'll be going back to the 30. something drivers...

PS... oh yea... and koepi: do you get some kind of a kick out of telling other people how dumb they are? no offence... just wondering!

killingspree:
you didn't follow the procedure nvidia tells you to go.
So i must assume that you didn't read it.
Sinc you come _here_ to ask for it, you shouldn't insult me, but just do what I wrote.
If you still fail to get those drivers to work, head over to nvidia.
This board isn't about nvidia, just in case you didn't notice.
What should I tell you?
Yes, now that you answered this way, I get a kick. And this is a real nice strike for YOU :)

If i was you guys, i would drop the detonator drivers and give these a chance...
I have been using this persons drivers since my Voodoo card...
www.omegacorner.com
OmegaDrive takes the drivers nvidia makes and makes them better. Personally I love these things:)
Newho - his lates release is based off of the 30.82 set I believe.
But you should check them out, i think that you'll like what you see...

I second this. I have been using the Win9x version of omega drivers, and while i have read some opinions against them (mainly because of aliasing), i love them. No need for anisotropic filtering.
Sorry to killingspree for keeping off topic, but i had to post this.

Maybe you'd realize that i treid to help you, and you insulted me.
And now again?
Now you really proof to be as dumb as your write above there.
Very annoyed,
Koepi
PS: at least you have a high important thread about non-DVD/ripping/encoding issues.

Yeah, i used to use omegas drivers for my Voodoo too (a long time ago). But i didn't know he also tweaked detonator drivers, so i haven't used them ever since.
I'm gonna try them right now.
