well wow (: my dad has brought me a nice dvd from the us... and well not thinking about region encoding, he naturally got me a region 1 dvd ... and i got my european region 2 drive...
ok so i read through doom9's guide, found out what dvd drive i had, and wanted to download the firmware...
BUT there was no real firmware, but just a nice little program that will change the region encoding! BUT only in real DOS mode... and i have to admit i have no clue how to get into real dos mode with winXP home edition. it explicitely says that the command prompt version is not working!
is there a way i can run this program?? pls help!
thx

PS: my DVD drive: Liteon LTD 122 DVD
if anybody knows another (better) firmware page where i could find an update for my drive pls post it!

I searched for "firmware" on google, and the first result had firmware for your drive.

However if that doesn't work, you should be able to use the utility you spoke of by creating a DOS boot disk and running it from there. A directory of sites dealing with such boot disks is at http://www.bootdisk.com/ .

you find a whole bunch of firmware updates... but they usually don't make your drive region free do they?!?

well anyway thanks for the help... i'm going to try the boot disk version!

The top search result was called "the firmware page" and contains nothing but patched firmware. The "DVD-ROM" section contains region-free patched firmware for your drive.
