View Full Version : My movie plays perfect on my computer, but choppy and slow motion on my DVD player.

I successfully backed up my movie onto my hard drive and copied onto a CD-R disk. It plays perfect on my computer after I copy it, but when I play it on my DVD player it is in slow motion and choppy....like someone keeps pressing the pause button on and off every 2 seconds or there are small gaps missing in the picture and sound. If it is the bitrate, how do I fix it? If not the bitrate then what else could it be? Here is my DVD2SVCD log file.

The bitrate is too high? If I go above the SVCD specs, the movie is choppy on my standalone player.

If it is DV source view post http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31848

otherwise you should post your log-file.

Greetings Frank_IX

I have posted my log file. I also tried changing the bitrate, but I still have the same problem. I have tried several different movies and I have the same problem on everyone. I can rip and burn everything perfect and the SVCD plays perfect on my PC, but the sound and picture are chopped like every 1 or 1/2 second on my standalone DVD player.

Have you checked out www.vcdhelp.com and the SVCD compatible DVD players list there? It could be that your DVD player doesn't like SVCDs much.

Also try to encode the movie with CCE and see what happens. TMPG is better at makinf VCDs and CCE is better at making SVCDs.

IMHO the resizing is not correct because SVCD is always 480x576 ! Try to change these settings.

Or 480x480 for NTSC.

The resizing could be the issue here as Frank said...

Sorry i've forgotten the little minority of NTSC user. ;-)

But yes, you're right.

I had the same problem with DVD-R's then I found out it was just because I was using the cheapest disc's I could find. Got some ritek disc's and now every player reads them fine.

No thats not the reason for my problems. I tried several different cd-roms. Always the same. but thx

Have you tried to burn them to CDRWs? I know that my Dads player will do that if I burn to a CDR, but plays fine with CDRWs.... Just a thought..........

Hello there,

Is this problem solved? Any news on this SVCD issue?

You can try burning at slower speeds if you still have this problem after trying all the suggestions mentioned above

Chances are that it's a DVD player issue and not an issue with DVD2SVCD.

First would be to lower the MAX and MAX AVG bitrates since it seems the DVD player cannot play the bitrate used.
