Windoze XP SP1

I know that this probably isn't the place for this question, but i'm running out of places to go... Hopefully someone that reads this will know of an answer... MS support has nothing, forums i've been in nothing. No answers on efnet either...;\

I'm running a dual boot XP for gaming/2K for everything else pc...

I installed the sp1 for xp and now my freakin 2k os won't load...

I am getting this error:

\winnt\system32\config\system
This file is missing or corrupt, please boot with the original cd and press r for repair.

Is there anyone else out there that is getting this message??? Also, this is the DO corp release, but it is using a unique key...

I dont' think that this part of it matters, but just in case. Talking in #winxp i was told that there was anohter person that had this happen.

If anyone has any answers, please let me know. I commited the cardinal sin and I didn't backup anything since i was working within XP, didn't think it would fubar my fakin 2k install... I figured if it screwed up xp, that's fine, no biggy. But 2k - that's a problem;)

Sorry I don't have the answer , but try the forums here

A lot of people there have been playing with sp1 for a
while .
You don't say what version of sp1 , was it a beta or
the final that just got leaked .

PS if it was the final it would say build 1106 in
which case you'll only have to wait until sept. 9
to get support on the MS boards .

ok, heres what to do:

boot 2k cd/floppies and choose auto repair, now 2k should work, and XP will be broke now.

then grab the XP cd, choose the repair by recovery console, and copy the NTLDR and NDETECT.COM files from the i386 dir on the cd to the root of C:

First, I would like to thank those of you who have replied, I appreciate your attempts to help me out here:)

I have read through and these are the results as of now...

Greg - It was the 1106 Leaked final release... Which was why I thought it would be alright. I wasn't going to put on any beta sp's on my puter for sure:) But i guess as of now it wouldn't have mattered:) hehehe

As for those forums, there's a lot to read, i am still researching on there, thanks for that direction:) I was running out of ideas for forums to look in.

Neverlift - I checked into that before i actually installed Sp1... As of right now, i am alright with it. XP works great. It's just the other OS. Although, i will say that come Monday, when everything is official, things may be a different story. But as of right now, all is good within XP with SP1.

Auenf - I have already tried that man - although thank you for the suggestion. It should have worked great, but for some reason it isn't doing anything. After running the repair, i can still boot into XP - even though I should not be able to...

Well, that's where I am as of now. Still researching forums. For those of you that care, once I get it figured out, I will be posting the results, in case anyone else runs into this problem also...

Hey Mrafrohead ,
I noticed you didn't get any help yet on the pronet
board , but what I'd try is posting on the MS boards
only leave out the part about installing SP1 and
using DO XP . Say it just happened and you have no
idea why . Here's the link to all the boards , you
want the XP general board .

Choose newsreader-based
board and your there .

A lot of the people there have done the beta testing
for MS XP SP1 and some of them actually know what
they're talking about .

I've been trying to follow SP1's problems . The shit
MS is doing is going to affect all of us eventually !
