Strange one with AviSynth & WinDVD 4 - Any Help Welcome

Hello !

I got an interesting one .
Bad for me , but I hope someone can come up with something .

I have gotten some SVCD's from a friend .

I also have WinDVD 4 , which can deal with the stuff .
When I play it from CD .

Now I have this problem :

I usually see my movies from HD , so as not to make life harder
for my drives . I know , it is (at least in parts) , overptrotective
behaviour, but that's me .

When I extract all the folders with content to HD , and it doesnt
matter where I put them , I thought I could play the SVCD's from
HD as well as I can play DVD's from HD .

But no . When I try that, there comes this little error message
in the WinDVD video window :

'' Avisynth : caught an access violation at 0x0a2011c8,
attempting to read from 0xb80adc01 ''

When I only play back the mpeg file, it goes OK, but I cannot
select the languages on the SVCD , it only plays the first one .

What has AviSynth to do with WinDVD and SVCD playback ?
How did any connection to it get into that program ?
I don't get it .

Believe me , I have tried everything I can think of short
of deleting every AviSynth registry item by hand .

Can anyone help me ?

Let me add something .

As I said, I did almost everything but delete every thing
on the PC (in directories and the registry) that said ' avisynth ' .

Now ... if I really did that , what effects would it have ?
Onto which programs or resources on the PC is avisynth bound to ?
What would change if it isnt there anymore ? Playback quality ?
Playback speed ? Filters used ?

I always thought that Avisynth was an optional filter for people
who want to encode MPEG content (1 or 2) to .avi files .
And not that any player uses it for playback .
That's why I still don't understand how the avisynth ever GOT INTO
WinDVD ...

And another thing .
I had not noticed this before .
When I play an SVCD from my CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives, all is
OK , but if the disc is finished playing , the same error message
appears as if I would have opened the disc from HD .
It gets stranger and stranger ...

I have, not long ago, maybe 3 or 4 days, installed a codec
pack (DivX Total Pack 1.1) that turned out to be bad stuff, so I deinstalled it .
Some of the stuff (like the Morgan Stream Swicher) did not deinstall
right , so I had to delete it from the registry myself .
As far as I know , Avisynth was not part of that package ...
But if it was ... are there any known registry settings that
bind Avisynth to certain programs ?

I'm 95% certain, that this is where your problem is. Codec packs are crappy, and often you end up with a f*cked up system, where OS reinstall is the only way out. I cannot say what they have done to your system, but if this happends - it's bad! Removing avisynth (by removing avisynth.dll from your system directory), will probably still leave your computer in a non-working state. Find your Install CD, backup your data and reinstall - and keep away from codec-packs!

Yeah , I have learnt that particula lesson, now .

But I would still like to know in which way Avisynth could
get into the WinDVD routine .
What could cause that, and how it could be turned off .

If deleting all avisynth registry items could help and stuff .
