in the last two days, i tried to encode a couple of movies and every time i had bad bad results, with strange horizontal stripes (u can see an horizontal line that divide these two "stripes"). all the movies came from dvd, with the usual gordianknot procedure (dvd2avi->gknot for cropping resizing and avisynth creation -> then encoding with virtualdub).

it's not deinterlacing (i've tried deinterlacing), it's not resizing (i've tried bicubic, bilinear and simple), it's not avisynth (the avs file plays well) and finally it's not virtualdub (i've tried encoding to divx4 and it's ok).

So what the hell is happening to my divx5 encoder ?!?

PS it's not the first time i encode to divx5, but this problem appeared only yesterday. I know the movie is ok because if i try to encode it on my pc (the problem is on my brother's pc) everything is fine.

i've uploaded a small clip (1mb) here :

I've had the same problem for a short while. After a while the problem just disappeared and the same clip could play fine without any horizontal lines. As I remember it it didn't matter whether I used the DivX 5 decoder or ffdshow.

Hi-

When I click the link it says "Requested file exceeds 256 KB".

When you load the .avi into Nandub or VDub do the lines show? N_F seemed to imply that it's not an encoding problem. Have you tried reinstalling DivX5.02, or even GKnot if worse comes to worse?

damn i created a free web account just to upload the file but it seems that u can put big (!) files on it.

i've changed the download url, now it should work

btw there are no lines/stripes in virtualdub BEFORE encoding (that is when i open the avs), but when i open the encoded avi in nandub (to mux it with audio) i can see that effect.

im going to reinstall all the stuff asap
