Is ASPI needed?

Is ASPI needed for ripping or anything else? Smartripper detects its not there but can rip without it, so is it needed or not?

some applications need it, while others don't. i.e. nero comes with it's own version.

if your cd app doesn't work as expected, you can try installing aspi.
