I've been working through the DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide and things have gone reasonably well...I've had my issues but re-reading the guide and applying common sense has fixed most of the issues. I'm stuck on the last and what was hopefully the most fulfilling step of actually burning my back-up DVD. I've done the following steps on a win2k laptop:
1. DVD Decrypt
2. Vobrater (Determine main movie is in VTS_01_01 to VTS_01_03
3. IFO-edit (strip the main movie, create new ifos)
4. IFO-edit (Region Free, sector correction, remove user options)
5. IFO-edit (create new image)

Now is where things get a little tricky. My Win2K laptop is adiministered by work, and I can't modify some of the trust properties, making sharing of my drive a little difficult. The DVD Burner that I have is actually my parents, so as an intermediate step, I copied the image file to the computer that has the burner. The burner is running on a Win 98 machine. Getting this to work on their machine, will drive me to getting my own burner, but I figure this is as good as any to learn on.

Tasks continued
6. copy img file from win2k laptop to win 98 machine (2.9 GB, so ok for Win 98)
7. write dvd with DVD Decrypter ISO -Write mode
Immediately after trying this I get the following ASPI error

ASPI Command Error
Device: [1:0:0]MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310

ASPI SRB Status: 0x04
Intrepretation: SRB Completed With Error

Host Adapter Status: 0x00
Intrepration: Host Adaptor Did Not Detect An Error

Target Status: 0x02
Intrepretation: Check Condition

CDB: 1E 00 00 00 01 00
Intrepretation: Prevent/Allow Medium Removal

Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 24 00
Intrepretation: Invalid Field in CDB

After several searches in the forum I didn't see anything that pointed me to a solution (That's no to say it isn't covered). I have ripped DVDs on the Win 98 machine, so I think I have an ASPI Layer installed. In reading the guides I think that if you can rip, then you should be ok??

For the record, I've been doing all of this with the platinum edition of Austin Powers Intl Man of Mystery, just as something to learn what's going on.

I hope to learn the ropes in the next few months and contribute back into the forum. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to set me straight on this issue.

Thanks
Wantok

This wasn't clear and i had to search for ages to find it out....

The newest ASPI layer can be downloaded at adaptec's website. You should download (I THINK) version 4.6....or whichever one that corresponds to your OS.

Thanks...I'll give that a try. I was actually able to get the DVD to burn using the image file created by IfoEdit, but then using the DVD Burning S/W that came with the DVD Player.

Perhaps updating the Force ASPI version will enable DVD Decrypter to burn as well.

Thanks again

I wouldn't waste my time trying to burn dvd's with DVD Decryptor. Just use it for ripping DVD's. I haven't seen anyone mention using it before in here, so if there are bugs its probably going to be you who finds them. Unless you have plenty of free time, just use Prassi or Nero 5.5.8.2
