i was intrigued by this little snippet from wired on an impending IMAX'd version of apollo 13
Imagine an 8-story-tall Tom Hanks — not exactly the guy next door anymore. But such is his presence in the Imax version of Apollo 13, the first blockbuster to be converted into a large-format epic using new remastering software. To start, each 35-mm frame is digitized. Next, a mathematical filter diminishes the grainy fuzz that results with any image blowup. After running the calculations through a render farm, the digital frames are recorded directly onto Imax-scale 70-mm film. Is supersize better? See for yourself when the movie hits the really big screen this August.
does anyone know what kind of method these guys will use to do the resizing? would it be something more sophisticated than a bicubic jobby?

- do we have anything to learn, video-filtering-wise, from these two resources? i liked what he did with the santa cruz example
