640x480 with TV Wonder PCI

This card has been nothing but frustration to date!

I want to capture at 640x480. MMC does not facilitate this and the MPEG2 codec appears to be proprietary anyway as no player other than ATI's own appears to work with the format.

I've tried VirtualDub (Caps great at 320x240) but errors out at resolutions higher than that. (Note: VDub docs indicate to try with Preview mode vs. overlay...no help), DS Fly, and IU VCR (caps at 640x480, but the sound is way over saturated).

System specs: Athalon 1800XP, TV Wonder PCI, TNT2, SB Live!, OS=XP.

The only way I've been able to capture at anythingx480 with the Tv Wonder is using the universal drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net. Using those and Virtualdub with preview mode allows me to capture *x480.

Okay...that works...almost.

The docs indicate to leave the current ATI drivers installed and just run the BTW driver installation app. The audio and video capture drivers DO install, but the ATI Audio Crossbar driver 'cannot start'.

If uninstalled, it is auto detected upon restart or 'Detect Hardware Changes.' If device manager is pointed to the ATI drivers, it is unable to start once the files are copied. Reboot does not help. If device manager is pointed to the temp directory where the BTW files are written during the install, no inf file exists appropriate for the hardware.

Bottom line, I can cap now at 640x480, but audio is disabled.

Are you capturing from the tuner? I capture through the composite and do audio straight to the sound card, so I never tried sound from the tuner. Did you use the btwincap installer to uninstall the old drivers? That always worked for me.

Actually I am capping from the S-Video In.

I have not used the driver uninstaller because the author states specifically to leave the ATI drivers intact and install on top of them. I'll give your method a go...I have nothing to lose!

Arrrgh! No go...still no audio. Any other suggestions?
FWIW: The 'BTPCI WDM Audio Capture' indicates, "No drivers are installed for this device."

Is this so with your config?

Yeah, mine says that too, I don't know why that is. But if you're capturing with composite or s-video you can bypass the tv card and hook your audio directly to the line-in on your sound card. Set your recording input to line-in and you should be good to go.

The only issue with this config now (capping with VDub) is async audio. It's not horrible, but it's noticeable. Any thoughts?
