Need help with converting .VOB to .MPEG2

I'm trying to build a 'best of' DVD, with scenes from various horror movies. We have parties, get drunk, and watch 'B' movie trailers or scenes. Sorta like Mystery Science Theater, but with alcohol! :)

Here's my problem: I can extract the scene from the DVD (using SmartRipper). But I can't re-import that file into DVDit for burning. I've tried to re-encode it with something like TMPGenc, but the resulting file is still not importable - DVDit hangs.

I've tried to drag & drop the file into VideStudio v6, and it works - but only for the video, no audio at all.

Suggestions? Recommendations?

Forget the question: Turned out I COULD just rename the file from VOB to MPG and drag it into DVDit. It wasn't working before because the decoder in DVDit got whacked. Uninstall and reinstall and everything works great.
