:) Right, i'll get right down to the point, i am thick, really stupid, and i would really like to know in step by step instructions, how i can rip LOTR, i have the original, but would like to get it onto a dvd-r. I am, of course new to this, and so am pleading with the knowlegible ones out there to help me please.

Just follow the guides at Doom9's site. They will tell you step by step what to do. But first you have to decide what format you want your movie to be in. Do some research first and find out what Codec fits your taste, I recomend Div5 with Gknot since that is really Newb friendly. If you decide to go that route and you want to put the video on DVD-R then you can do a first pass with quantasizers at 2. That is the best quality for Divx5.

Many thanks Hiro2k, i have been looking for many tutorials on this subject, and found many, so many the choices and software preferences are very bewildering. Your idea ofing Div5 is yet another one, but i will look into it, as i have done the others.

doom9 has put up a new tutorial just yesterday for seamless dvd-r encoding! you might want to try that one... since lotr is for sure seamless encoded!

PS: if you don't know what seamless encoding is, just check out the guide anyway!! is quite a long read though!
