Is it possible to make those for the consumer market?
Or is too advanced?
Anyone got any inside info on that subject?
or will we have to settle for the single layer 4.7 GB discs in the future as well?
Thanks

If you search this forum on the words "dual layer" you'll see that the question has been asked a bunch of times, and answered.
The general answer: No, there won't be any based on current technology.

What ever happened to those triple layer cd writers (multi-layer)that were suppose to be out by now (was it Oak Tree that announce it 6 months ago?)
And I guess Sony's double layer cd writer was a flop... ...but doesn't that at least prove that multilayer buring is possible on organic surfaces?

...you noticed I said "based on current technology"....
Who knows what they'll come up with next.

true, I haven't heard any plans for dual layer writers, so its a mute point unless your going to build your own :)
BTW, I got this from the links page, but http://www.dvdwriters.co.uk/ has a lot of info about up and coming dvd writers.

I actually did try the search button not so long ago with "dual layer writer" but got no results, but when I tried it again after I posted this message I found one thread about the subject with 1 reply, heh :p

and you say 'for the consumer market', but the ONLY way to make dual layer DVD is a production run, be it in small or large numbers (iirc, the major studios make a run of a hundred or so for testing.
