i encoded kurosawa's '7 samurai' into 4 SVCDs which play fine on the computer but is stretched vertically a bit on my Apex AD1500. normally i wouldn't mind but most of the subtitles are cut off. it's a 4:3 movie, which i encoded with tmpgenc, forced film on (film 99%), 3:2 pulldown when playback, 23.976 fps (29.97 internally). i used avi2mpg2 to multiplex. is there something i did wrong or is it the player? fpr example, if i play Underworld Everything Everything on my sony, there are black bars, on the Apex the picture is fullscreen. both are set for 4:3 televisions. anyone experience the same with this player?

What aspect ratio did you use for the encoded video with TMPGEnc ? You should use "Full screen (keep aspect ratio)". You also have to set the correct aspect ratio for your source file. Usually, it's 1:1 (VGA).

Hope this helps

yes, i always use Full screen (keep aspect ratio), but never 1:1, its always either 4:3 (525 line) or 16:9 (525 line)

Well, try 1:1. The 1:1, 4/3 or 16/9 option is the aspect ratio of the sourve video. If your source file appears with correct aspect ratio with the media player, it means the source aspect ration is 1:1 (for definitions like 384x288, 640x480... select 1:1).

What def is your source file ? I think it's worth a try in your case.

Under video have it at 4:3 (which you said ou already did)

Sounds to me you ignored the advanced tab, where you also must choose 4:3. (It may default 16:9)

Check that out.
