View Full Version : The joys of buring images instead of direct files

I have to say that since I started making dvd images instead of trying to burn the files and UDF file systems directly, I've had nothing but successful burns and perfect playable discs.

After I've gotten everything ripped and sized down, I've been using DVDWise 1.74 (an older one I think) to do the final steps of multiplexing the audio/video together into a VOB, building the VIDEO_TS directory and contents, and building the final dvd .img file to burn. I've been using Veritas RecordNow DX that came with my A04 burner and its worked like a charm EVERY time.

I'm not sure why, but disc images seem to work so much better than the straight directory burns that I've attempted in the past, IMHO.

Imjin,

In the main, I would have to agree with you. I normally burn a normal "vts type set" but, if I encounter problems, I create an image first, then burn.

I have never had a problem with an image burnt copy. The only reason why I don't do this every time, is the extra time it takes to burn an image.

Trouble is, I'm lazy.

Quick tip I noticed today, if you arrange it so that the drive you burn the images on is different than the drive your compiling from, you can use the full write speeds of your HDs, if you have recent 7200 HD, that means around 30-35 megs per second, not much extra time at all.

Ghamu,

Thanks for the tip!! I just installed a second 120gb 7200rpm drive last week, and did exactly that. The source files were on one drive, the image output was another. The image create time went down pretty nicely!
