Hi,
I have problems with some DVDs, when I open the Ifo-File in DVD2SVCD. The movie length shown in DVD2SVCD 1.09 build 3 doesn't match the value shown in SmartRipper or on the DVD itself. In most cases the differece has just been in the region of one or two minutes.
Yesterday I did try the German movie "Bang Boom Bang" and instead of 104 mins a movie length of 113 mins is displayed. At first I did the ripping with SmartRipper 2.41 which shows the correct time of 104 mins (which got wrong when opening the ifo). Second try I did use the internal routines from DVD2SVCD which immediatly displayed a wrong time of 113 mins.
Anybody experienced a similar problem and perhaps can tell me what's going wrong?

Is there more than 1 IFO on the DVD? If so, DVD2SVCD always selects the largest of them, which sometimes is not the main movie (in the case of a long documentary or other extra). Just manually select the proper IFO if this is the case, and your problem will be solved.

There are several more Ifo-Files on the DVD, but they only contain the Add-Ons, bits and pieces no longer than 10 minutes.
To be sure I did compare the length of the single chapters of the film between my standalone DVD player, SmartRipper and DVD2SVCD. Put together the durations shown in SmartRipper add up to the total movie length and agree with the times shown in the DVD player. In DVD2SVCD there are 2 chapters that are longer than in SmartRipper. These two chapters add up to the 9 min longer movie length shown.
I guess I have to try and encode one of those two chapters, to see what the additional playtime does display. Could it be that this some kind of extra-special Add-On not supposed to be found by everybody?

I doubt it's a hidden special, but I also doubt it will pose a problem. Doing as you plan, and encoding one of them will prove one way or the other, but I doubt the extra footage will create any errors. Report back, I'd like to know the results.

The time displayed before starting the process is only from the ifo. If DVD2SVCD will calculate the bitrate for encoding with CCE, it 'measures' the movie again by starting CCE and closing it again, this time the lenghts will be correct. I won't be upset about the shown time at the beginning, just let DVD2SVCD do it's work and look at the result, if nothing is missing or async, there is no reason for worry. ;)
p.s. if you watch the DOS-box from beSweet, you can see until what time position it converts the audio, you can write down this length. When CCE is started, you can see how many frames it will be doing, if you divide this by 25 (PAL), you should get the same time as in beSweet. If not, there is really a problem...

I am not sure but this happened with me couple of times. It could be possible that this disc conatins, Theatrical Release & Unrated Release. The Theatrical release is usually shorter than the Unrated release. To pick the right movie, do the following:

1) in DVD2SVCD Conversion tab, select the Movie length. A new window will show up with the movie length at the top and the list of chapters at the bottom. This movie length box has a arrow towards its right. Click on it and it will bring a list to pick you the right movie length.

Now this may not work in your case but its worth a try.

Good Luck...

I did convert one of the two chapters with differing lengths today. SmartRipper and my DVD player showed a length of 4:41min, DVD2SVCD showed 9:22min. The converted video-file has a length af 4:39min and in contains all scenes that I see on my DVD player.
But nevertheless I finally managed to find out, what's so special about this chapter. I didn't notice before, but the whole chpater has tow different angles. And if you add the time of the two angles up, you get the length of 9:22min.
In the movie-length menu there is however just one entry, where the palying time of all multi angles scenes is added to the initial movie length. But, as the test with the first chapter showed, just angle 1 is being converted.
At the moment that's fine for me, as I want to convert the first angle, but what should I do if want to convert angle 2? Any ideas?

bye,
Jan

Just perform a search for "encoding multiangle films" (or the like). There are plenty of explanations on how to do so. I believe it's even in the Q&A...
