View Full Version : Spliting AVI, Why different Sizes?

I have this weird dilema. I am cutting a AVI that I encoded with Divx 5.02 and it's giving different file sizes. All of the AVI's don't have audio. When i split the AVI, here's what i get

23.34 294MB
23.35 263MB
23.37 332MB

What is the cause of this and is there a way to fix it so that all of them are at ~300Mb. Does Xvid have this problem or is it AVI container related.

Thanks.

Hi Hero2k

Tried avisplitcalc newest version already ? Think it is more precise. You can get it here:

BTW: Turn on your music, when visiting this site, it is quite good

Hi Hiro2k-

I'm not sure I understand the question. These are perhaps 3 episodes on a DVD that you are splitting after encoding? And you want to put 2 each on a CD? If that's true, there's an easy answer. The quality is the same for each of the 3 episodes, but because of different amounts of motion, luminance, noise, etc. among the different episodes (motion being the most important), the file sizes are different. To make the file sizes the same (but have uneven quality among the different episodes), perhaps rip by chapters and encode each episode separately.

But maybe I misunderstood the question (wouldn't be the first time).

No manno you got it exactly. So that is the reason why 3 episodes that are the same legnth can vary in size. Thanks for the advice. Looks like i have to re-encode.
