that's not impossible, but it's a waste of time, because you will just lose quality in the movie by converting it into an avi (but that's just my opinion).

uses vcdgear to change your vcd into mpeg (dat -> mpeg), then use tmpgenc, virtualdub, or gknot to convert the mpeg into avi.

if you need help check the guides.

Well I got the program but how does it work? The manual sucks and I'm still stumped! On I think I forgot to mention my vcd is on 2 disks. PLEASE HELP ME! if you can!

yes, the manual do sucks, but its easier to learn how to do it by reading the manual than learning how to do it yourself or asking someone here.

okay your vcd is in two parts; covert them into mpeg, than use the merge & cut software in tmpgenc under Mpeg Tools to combine them together.

i still think its a waste of time for what you're trying to do, and i can't really explain what do to causes i'm only doing vcd; but here a link that should really help you causes there's a lot of pictures http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/vcd-2-divx.htm.

only encode about a minute of the video, so you can change the settings, if the video the looks like crap.

a quick step-by-step is impossible to explain and people are interest in these things, (that why there's a foum for this) but they just don't care enough to help you.

There is a prog. VCDGear.
Doom9.org - Download - (S)VCD Tools -show me more - VCDGear.
Load the .dat, choose dat-mpeg conversion.

oops! I have read dani82 already suggest you vcdgear. OK, the mpeg you will get should be reencoded to meet DVD specs. - 720/480 (576 for PAL) resolution MPEG-2. Alternative is to record it as VCD (after joining both mpegs from both VCDs using MPEGTools which come with TMPGEnc) on the dvd.
But everything is explained very well (I think) in (S)VCD to DVD-R conversion guide.

As pointed out before, you will lose quality during _any_ conversion step. Just to quote from the doom9 guide you rightfully recommended: DVDs support VCD resolution and MPEG-1 video. They also support mpeg1 layer2 (mp2) audio along with PCM or AC3 audio. You just have to resample the audio to 48kHz.

You are right of course. I knew this. My intention was to make Jin to read a bit...;)
